The Big Yellow Egg Datejust…

We are delighted to offer one of our favourite vintage Rolex watches from the 1950s. This Datejust is an example of a Rolex big bubbleback watch, known by their Italian nickame ‘Ovettone’ (big egg) due to the exceptional depth of case. They are seriously cool on the wrist due to the extra height. This case shape was needed because of the automatic winding rotor in these 1950s watches. This watch dates to the mid-1950s and the nicely aged champagne soleil dial is marked ‘OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED CHRONOMETER’. The dial has a gold frame around the date window that features an all-red date disc. The 36mm yellow gold case has taken on a nice, gentle patina over the years. The watch has been fully serviced and will come with a Bulang and Sons strap fitted with a gold plated Rolex buckle.
